Week of November 7th

This week we had a large compressor reserved to blow out the irrigation system for winter. The date for this is scheduled months in advance and must go on rain or shine. This year the weather happened to be very nice; this was great for us not battling rain and cold, but perhaps a slight nuisance for the many golfers enjoying a 70 degree November day. With apologies for the noise and popping sprinkler heads, blowout went very well. All of the saddle replacements from the past few years are paying dividends and we had very few leaks.

In the past week we have also seen most of the leaves finish falling from the trees. This allows us to start getting ahead on cleanup. We will continue to work away on areas of heavy accumulation with blowers and the leaf vac in the coming weeks. The new tractor is certainly getting a workout trying to keep up with leaves at the compost dump!

Greens are still growing well with the warm weather we've had lately. They were cut twice and sprayed this week and and we will likely cut them once more before the colder weather slows things down. We will be making winter plant protection applications and topdressing in the next few weeks to prepare for snow cover and overwintering. Between now and then we will hopefully still have some nice days for golf as the season draws to a close. While enjoying a late-season round, please continue to be diligent in repairing ballmarks. Greens are relatively soft and unrepaired marks heading into winter are prime points for further poa incursion into the greens.
