Much of this week was spent making winter applications to the golf course when weather conditions were favorable. Agronomy teams focus was on tees and fairways. Not only do we need to spray the play surfaces, but we need to make sure the play surface are 100 percent clean from fall debris before making the application.

Below is a picture of Marcelo and George clearing the 6th fairway prior to a spray:

The agronomy team still has some applications to make before the final topdressing of the season is put out. These applications will be the agronomy team's main focus this week.

Speaking of fall debris our compost area was pushed back this week and highlights the amount of time and effort the agronomy team puts into fall cleanup each year. When fall cleanup is complete we will post the man hours that have been logged into turf assitant which is our labor tracking device we use. I think the membership will be astonished at the manhours that are logged each fall.

The agronomy team had some lengthy frost delays to contend with this week and time was spent cleaning out the following areas:

  1. The previoiusly cleared area to the right of the third fairway was gone through. All woody debris was removed and all new growth and sucker growth was taken down

  2. Two areas on the right of the first hole were cleaned and piled. All leaf debris was removed from one area and the other has a large pile that the team will be working on this week.

  3. Maintenance clearing was done to behind the 8th green. All sucker growth was taken out, native areas cut down, and all leaf debris was removed.

  4. The "bermuda triangle" area to the left of 14 had a large portion of the leaf debris removed from it. We will be removing more from this area in the near future and taking brush and trees out of this area as well.

Also this week we started bidding out the winter tree work to the golf course. The main focus of the agronomy team will be completeing work to the right of 1 where we currently have 29 trees slated for removal. The agronomy team's winter goal is to remove a minimum of 60 trees from the property while following the golf courses best management practices.
