Tee renovation progress

The renovated tee on 9 and the new forward tee on 16 were rolled this week in preparation for the first mow of the new sod. First mow was completed 6/2

The remaining area on 16 where the contractor ran short on sod was completed. As the sod grows in and roots it will match with the existing sod. The sod is the same variety and from the same field as what was previously installed.

We still do not have an exact timetable on opening the renovated tees, but are very happy with the progress.

Approaches

We have lowered height on approaches. This area has been a focus of the team and I over the past two seasons. During the recent MGA amateur qualifier, I observed a few players go back to their bag and decide to putt off the approaches instead of chip. This was one of the end goals of this work when we started two seasons ago. Approaches will be topdressed again soon and some overseeding will take place in areas where we still have a high poa concentration.

15 green surround renovation

More work was done to the 15th green surround renovation project this week. The large rocks have been removed and prep has been continued. We are planning on sodding this area in the next 10 days.

Applications

2nd assistant Michael Curtin and the spray tank were camera shy this week, but Mike just finished up spraying all rough adjacent to fairways wall to wall for broadleaf weeds. The rough he has sprayed earlier in the sequence looks great. Our next area of attack will be tee banks as we still have some clover in these areas that needs addressing.

Basically everyday over the past two weeks when weather was conducive for spraying the tanks were out making applications. April and May are the busiest time of year for applications. During the summer we fall into a more predicable routine spray interval.

Rainfall

We received some much needed rainfall over the past week. Nothing overly substantial, but a nice break for the crew and I from the grind of watering. We were all way too tired for the end of May. We all just worked an 8 hour day on Wednesday. I even was able to find a little time Wednesday evening to do a little fishing.
