Week of March 25th: A Wet and Sandy Week

Course Saturday Morning 3/23

First off, I would like to thank the entire Agronomy team for the work they put into the golf course this week under rather adverse and wet conditions. I don't think we ever have gone through a full box of hand warmers in a week. Friday mornings conditions were particularly adverse with cold rain turning to snow, before eventually clearing.


The golf course is scheduled to open for the 2024 season on Friday, April 5th. There is potential now for snow Wednesday night into Thursday which possibly could impact opening. More details on course opening will be coming in an email next week.


Most of this week was spent concentrating on cleanup and bunker work. We are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel concerning cleanup. I for one can't wait to be making the shift from cleanup to agronomy and project mode. While cleanup is a necessary evil, it would be nice to invest this labor into projects. I am sometimes a little jealous of links style course superintendents that don't have to deal with the level of cleanup that we do.


Recently completed bunker work to 15

Extensive bunker work continued this week. We have now done bunker work to holes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12,14,15,and 18. However, all bunkers on these holes haven't been completed yet. In total work has been completed to 32 bunkers. Work will continue all next week and during the 2024 season. 81 tons of new sand have been added at this point and about 60 tons more staged and ready to go.

Large wind damaged pine cut up and removed

Even with the amount of tree removal we need on the golf course, I am hoping this will be the last storm damage tree that comes down for a while. The agronomy team has one more small tree removal project budgeted for when we have dry conditions.
