Extensive tree work along the 3rd hole was completed this week. This work was planned in conjunction with the ICC greens committee and with input from the ICC golf professional staff. The majority of these trees were removed due to identified issues with the trees health or its impact upon the surrounding turf. In addition to allowing for future turf improvements in the rough and fairway these removals will also improve playability and improve the aesthetics of the hole. Below are some pictures prior to the removals.
Turf improvements along the rough of the 3rd hole will be done in the coming season. Some pictures after the tree work was completed.
In addition to the work on 3, previously storm damaged trees on 2, 4-7, 11, and 15 were also removed. Two large pines at the rear of the range field that would have interfered with the new netting were also removed. Roughly 50 trees were removed across the course by Mayer Tree Service this week. A wide range of heavy equipment was brought in to complete the work. Here are some pictures showing Mayer Tree Service removing the trees.
A large pine on the right side of 14 by the cart drive off was also cut down by the golf course maintenance staff. This tree was negatively impacting the surrounding turf through moisture competition and restricting cart traffic around it. Another tree of note that was removed was a large oak tree overhanging the right side of the 9th green. This tree routinely dropped acorns and other debris onto the greens surface affecting putting and mowing equipment. This tree on 9 was Matt's least favorite tree on the golf course.
In addition to the tree work this week we also continued to do some work inside getting course accessories ready for a new season. This included lightly sanding and refinishing our wooded flag sticks and cart signs.
Finally we are happy to say that we have officially been recertified as a Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. This is a program that ICC has been a part of since 2016 and looks forward to continuing working with in the future. Audubon International is a organization aimed at promoting responsible management of the surrounding environment.
