The recent and predicted snow events will definitely set us back some as far as course opening. My staff and I hope pictures like below are not far away. This picture was taken on March 25th last year with a green being rolled prior to its first cut.

This week was spent mostly on snow removal, equipment maintenance, and course accessory work. We have also started the hiring process and have started to build the agronomy team for the 2023 season.
The agronomy team is finished with golf course winter projects. As soon as the snow melts our full focus will be on golf course preparations.
This post will provide a brief summary of our winter work. All winter work was completed based off the long range plan that is in place with greens committee guidance and feedback.
Winter 2022/23 completed work:
Hole 1
4 dead trees removed from behind gold tee on 1
Removal of dead trees and brush on left of 1 in an effort to create a new maintenance line and extend playable conditions.
Front greenside bunker reshaped
Hole 2
One dead and one tree leaning out of wood line where removed
Brush was cleared from drainage swale beginning left of fairway
Three pines were removed from grove on the left
Hole 3
Extensive tree removal on left and right of this hole that will improve playability, aesthetics, and ensure the long term success of the turf.
Hole 4
Dead tree removed behind gold tee
Brush and tree work right side of hole to make way for rough seeding work in the future. Unfortunately, frozen ground was limited and tree takedowns would need to occur on fairway. Some tree removals will need to be completed next winter.
Front left bunker on 4 reshaped
Hole 6
Brush was removed from top of hill by green to improve sprinkler coverage and make way for a green surround renovation project in the future.
Hole 7
Dead tree overhanging cart path by white tee parking was removed.
Area in front of 7 tee/rock face had routine maintenance clearing
Left Bunker was reshaped
Hole 8
Creek was cleared on right side and area to be converted to turf
Maintenance clearing behind the 8th green
Hole 9
Removed declining oak overhanging the green (Agronomy team is happy this tree is gone)
Hole 10
Cleared creek area to right of 10 tee. This was basically a HOA request, but will add some aesthetic value to the course as well.
Hole 13
Removed two dead trees on the left of this hole that over hanged the cart path
Hole 14
Removed white pine on right of fairway just past rock outcropping that out competes the turf on the fairway. (Another tree the agronomy team is happy to see go)
In addition, all stump grinding is complete. All large storm damage trees have been removed and all large debris has been chipped. Irrigation was worked on, course accessories refurbished, and we completed our Audubon recertification. Also countless hours of equipment maintenance occurred among many other tasks.
All in all, the agronomy team had a successful winter and are looking forward to moving into course preparations. Hopefully mother nature will cooperate!
