Week of February 20th

While the week has ended with the golf course once again blanketed in snow and ice, we were able to do some outside work early in the week. The stump grinder leaves behind very large piles of mulch that need to be hauled away so that the area can be loamed and seeded. This is a time consuming process and having the weather to start on it in February is hardly guaranteed, so we took advantage while we could.

After the snow was cleaned up and we were stuck inside once again, we continued our work on course accessories. Tee markers, flag sticks, and cart traffic signs are done so it was on to replenishing hazard stakes. Equipment overhaul is also constantly ongoing; in addition to the usual fluid changes, brake maintenance, sharpening blades, and grinding reels, we sometimes need to work on some more involved repairs. After years of hauling sand up and down the steep hills of the ICC, the clutch in our topdressing Workman was beginning to slip. It was time to pull the motor and replace the poor clutch. It's always nice to be able to do larger repairs like this during the winter rather than have it fail in the middle of the season and lead to extended down time!
