Snow falling on 4

In last week's blog we mentioned that we would be going biweekly in the blog, but decided to update as the agronomy team has had a busy week.

Last chemical application to greens

The week started with the agronomy team making the last greens spray of the year. This application consisted of contact fungicides to provide some extra control to the greens for winter diseases. Fungicides will last a long time over the course of the winter, but the biggest cause of breakdown is from moisture and sunlight. With an excessive amount of moisture falling and more on the way plus the lack of snowcover it was decided to spray again. With systemic and penetrant fungicides already in the plant greens should be very well covered for the winter season.

The agronomy team started the rock wall on 3 this week. Team member Jim Kindler has some masonry experince and took on a lead role on the wall construction. Juan Reyes has been busy hauling and moving stone. Jim and Juan still have a lot to do and some more rock's are needed but the wall really is taking shape.

Below is a gallery of the wall on 3:

While Jim and Juan were busy on the wall on 3, Marcelo was tackling the "bermuda triangle" area on the left of 14. All of the remaing leaves were cleaned from this area and brush and small trees where removed. I think the membership will be happy with the work done to this area and at the very least will help speed play some.

Also this week maintenance was done to the pond between 9 and 18. Some of you might remember this area was completely surrounded by small saplings just a few year's ago. Periodically we must go back and remove any woody material that grows back and other vegatation. This was completed this week.

Below are some pictures of the pond edge:

Another area requiring yearly maintenance is many of the outcroppings that we have exposed. This week we tackled the 7th tee outcropping.

Also this week all ornamental grasses where cut down around the range and clubhouse area.

It looks like we have more rain coming Sunday into Monday and possibly a period of unfrozen ground. If we have thawed soil conditions next week the hope is to break ground on leveling the drains at the bottom of the 3rd fairway.
