Work continued on the sides of the 3rd hole this week. Most of the stumps on the left side have been filled with loam and seeded. These spots will be watered multiple times a day and additional seed will be added as needed. Please avoid walking through or disturbing these areas as the seed germinates and establishes itself. We will continue to clean out, fill, and seed remaining stump holes on 3 and across the course as we are able. Additional work to the 3rd hole will be ongoing including addressing some drainage issues along the cart path.

The application of pre-emergent herbicide is a yearly activity that takes considerable time and manpower. This week we applied pre-emergent to our green surrounds and bunkers using rotary spreaders. The herbicide is delivered through a granular application that also included a significant amount of nitrogen fertilizer. Our fairway pre-emergent applications were also completed through a liquid application from our fairway spray rig. These applications are very important for controlling many weeds especially goosegrass and crabgrass across the golf course.

Work on the irrigation continues as more saddles leaks are tracked down across the course. At the start of every season we perform an audit of the irrigation system to verify that the roughly 1,400 individual irrigation heads are all working properly. Some common problems that come up include the arc of a head being out of adjustment, damaged O-rings, broken riser internals, or a head not responding remotely. These issues all need to be identified and fixed to ensure the system is performing as expected. All green, tee, and fairway heads across the course have been audited and are working correctly. Only the rough heads on a few holes remain to be checked.

Other completed task this week:

  • Tees divots done to all 71 tees

  • Greens received a fertility and fungicide application

  • New staff members Adam, Zac, and Steve were trained on a number of different tasks like tee setup, bunkers, rough mowing, and approach mowing.
